It seems that we’re going to have to wait a little while before we head back to Atlantis with Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, as DC and Warner Bros. have greenlit the sequel for release in 2022.
There’s still no news on whether James Wan will return to direct the sequel, but it has already been reported that Wan’s frequent collaborator David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick will pen the screenplay.
In addition to this sequel, there’s an Aquaman spin-off in the works – a horror focusing on The Trench, and the monsters that dwell there, who attacked Aquaman (Momoa) and Mera (Amber Heard) in the first film.
So, currently, the Warner Bros./DC slate looks like this:
Shazam! – April 5th
Joker – October 4th
Birds of Prey – February 7th, 2020
Wonder Woman 1984 – June 5th, 2020
The Batman – June 25th, 2021
The Suicide Squad – August 6th, 2021
And finally, Aquaman 2 is currently set for release on December 16th, 2022.
