Danai Gurira, the actress behind katana-wielding badass Michonne, will be leaving The Walking Dead for good after Season 10.

Gurira, who also starred in Marvel’s smash-hit Oscar-nominee Black Panther, has signed a deal to say that she will only appear in a handful of episodes in the next season of The Walking Dead.

Her exit will be the third high-profile departure for TWD, after Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan left the series early in Season 9. AMC haven’t commented on Gurira’s exit, but the deal she has signed seems very similar to what producers have been trying to work out with Cohan, who may also return for occasional episodes.

Lincoln and Cohan’s exits left many fans disenchanted with the series – with a number of them deciding not to watch further – and when Michonne (a firm fan-favourite) departs, she may again take some of the audience with her. This news follows the announcement that the AMC have renewed the apocalyptic series for a tenth season.

More on this when we have it.
