Rocketman director Dexter Fletcher is in talks to direct Sherlock Holmes 3 for Warner Bros., Deadline has confirmed.
The past couple of years have seen Fletcher go from strength to strength, after finishing Bohemian Rhapsody in the wake of Bryan Singer’s firing (which went to be nominated for many an award) he then went on to direct the Elton John biopic, Rocketman, which has also seen massive critical acclaim.
While Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are expected to reprise their respective roles of Holmes and Watson, Deadline has heard that Fletcher is not yet confirmed to take the helm from director of the first two films, Guy Ritchie. In fact, it seems the two have switched roles, with usual action-man Ritchie tackling a musical in the form of Disney’s Aladdin, and Fletcher, who has directed many a musical, is set to take over the Sherlock Holmes franchise. The two are also friends, with Fletcher having starred in Ritchie’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
Sherlock Holmes 3 is currently slated for released on December 21st, 2021.
