Jared Leto shared a photo on Instagram today to celebrate the start of filming on Morbius, the Spider-Man Universe spin-off at Sony.

Deadline has also revealed that Jared Harris, best known for his roles in Mad Men and The Crown, has also signed on for the Daniel Espinosa-directed feature.

Leto will play Dr. Michael Morbius, a renowned biochemist-turned-living vampire, created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane. Morbius first debuted in in The Amazing Spider-Man #101, where he attempts to cure a fatal blood disease by injecting himself with a serum derived from bats – which, in true comic book fashion, turns him into vampire anti-hero Morbius.

Harris’ role has not been revealed, but considering the actor’s penchant for playing characters on the darker side, like Professor Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to believe that Harris may take on the role of the film’s antagonist.

Morbius is scheduled for release on July 31st, 2020.
