All elite organisations have to start somewhere, and it seems that in 2020 we will learn how Kingsman began, with prequel The King’s Man.
Disney and Fox have set February 2020 as the release for this film, in which we’ll “discover the origins of the very first independent intelligence agency.”
The King’s Man is set to be directed by Matthew Vaughn, who co-wrote and directed the first two films in the series. This title appears to reveal that this story will reveal some background on perhaps the agency’s founder – the titular “King’s Man.”
There’s little detail surrounding the project, such as where the film will take place, or indeed when, and who will star – the only official synopsis released with this date reads: “As a collection of history’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds gather to plot a war to wipe out millions, one man must race against time to stop them.”
However, a clue to a potential period in which the story will take place may come from the first Kingsman film, where Harry (Colin Firth) says “Since 1849, Kingsman tailors have clothed the world’s most powerful individuals.”
It will be interesting to see what Vaughn does with this film, as the organisation’s past has never been covered in Mark Millar’s original comic books.
